Carson’s “Play Ball” Quilt & Giveaway: {RB Quilt Kit}

I am beyond the moon excited to show you guys Carson’s finished quilt!!!

(Remember it was one of my New Year’s Resolutions?)

Are you ready?

Play-Ball-Quilt

It is exactly what I was hoping for and looks perfect in his room!

Finished-quilt-in-room

The quilt pattern is Baby Steps and the fabric is Play Ball. Both by Riley Blake Designs.

I had a vague idea in my mind of how I wanted this quilt to look, and had been looking and looking for the right pattern.

As soon as I saw the “Baby Steps” one, I knew it was exactly what I wanted.

I added two extra rows to make it a little longer. The pattern was so easy to follow that I was able to whip up the quilt top in one day. (Of course it did help that my mom was in town so she could play with the kids while I sewed).

Quilt-Top

As soon as I finished the top, I took it to Material Girls in South Jordan, Utah where you can drop of your quilts to be “free-motion quilted” by Wendy of Eagle Mountain Quilting.

I am thrilled with the sports pattern I chose!

My son loves fleece and similar soft fabric, so I put minky on the back and was so happy that the pattern showed up just as well on that fabric!

Quilting-pattern-back

Wendy had it done within a week!

As soon as I got it back, I hand-stitched the binding and couldn’t wait to get it on Carson’s bed.

Quilt-on-bed

It turned out better than I could have ever hoped for and is one of my favorite projects to date!!!

(My son also loves it, which makes my heart so happy!)

And since Riley Blake Designs loves you guys so much, one of you is going to win this complete Baby Steps project kit – includes pattern and fabric to make quilt top and binding!

I’m keeping it simple to enter. Just leave a comment on this post!

Of course I would love if you checked out more of the fantastic fabric by Riley Blake Designs and liked them on Facebook, but that’s completely up to you!

Giveaway will run until Monday, March 19th @ 8 pm MST.

Have fun and good luck!

Taking Your Photography to Another Level with Kristen Duke

In blogging, one thing that is super important is good pictures. Some of my favorite blogs are my favorite because they have incredible photos.
This is one area I would really like to improve in.
Last year, I took steps to becoming a better photographer by using Kristen Duke’s book “Say NO to Auto”, you can read my review HERE.
I’ll admit that I’m one of those people, that I leave my camera

10 Board and Batten Tutorials

You guys have been so patient with me in regards to Jessica’s room makeover.
We had a little setback a couple of weeks ago because the plug on my compressor fried. Literally started smoking and burning. Good thing it was plugged into a surge protector.

However, I got a new plug and we got back on track last week.
As a refresher this is how the room started.
And this is how it looks right now.

Killer Peanut Butter Bars

A couple of weeks ago, I asked you guys on Facebook for a killer peanut butter bars recipe. Just like with the cinnamon rolls, you guys gave me some great recommendations.

I pinned a lot of the recipes and got to work cooking and taste-testing.
My family has eaten a lot of different peanut butter bars in the last couple of weeks.

THANK YOU and March Silhouette Promo

I am overwhelmed with love and appreciation for all of you.
I wish I could properly put into words how much each and every.single.comment/email meant to me.
You guys are so amazing. Words are not adequate to describe just how truly grateful I am for the advice and words of encouragement you guys gave me yesterday.
I loved all the wonderful suggestions you provided – book recommendations, parenting techniques, words of wisdom, rewards systems, etc.
I appreciated all the stories (some funny, some sad) that you went through with your own children (or are going through).

All of your words buoyed me up more than you could possibly know, so with every ounce of energy I possess, I wish to tell you thank you.

I come away with a stronger resolve to be more patient, more consistent, more loving.
I also come away knowing that I’m not alone. I’m not a failure.
All of your kind, sincere words had me in tears (in a good way). I would love to respond to each and every one of your comments/emails, but I hope you will forgive me and please accept this post as my thank you.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thank you for letting me take a detour on the blog for personal reasons. This world is full of so many good people and I’m so fortunate to be able to connect with so many of you.
So now, back to regularly scheduled crafty posts…
Today starts a new Silhouette promotion.
