Hip Mama Diaper Bag

I love Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags, but can't quite bring myself to spend that kind of money, so I have been getting by with cheapo diaper bags (you know the kind they give you at the hospital when you give birth). I decided to make one myself. Introducing the Hip Mama Diaper Bag. I LOVE it!!! So cute and very functional. I can't believe all the pockets. Two exterior side pockets for things like water bottles. Two exterior front pockets. A big exterior zipper pocket in the back. Lots of interior room, with three elastic pockets for bottles/sippy cups on one side and two big elastic pockets on the other side and plenty of room in the middle for diapers, wipes, etc. (The picture really doesn't do it justice because the fabric isn't very heavyweight.) This was probably the most fun I've had sewing something. I couldn't stop, and stayed up until 4 in the morning to finish it. Drawback is that it took about 8 hours, so I don't think this will be a sewing group project. I used cotton fabric with interfacing so it holds form okay, but it would be better with heavyweight fabric like home decor fabric. The only side that doesn't have interfacing is the zippered pocket, so if I made it again, I would add interfacing to that side. Also the interior calls for water-resistant vinyl, but I'm in love with these fabrics and couldn't resist using them. Plus, now my diaper bag matches my diaper wipes case!!!

  1. Your bag looks great! I've tried a few different ones myself lately.
Have you tried using the iron on vinyl? You can use whatever fabric you want and it's still water resistant. It worked great in my machine btw...unlike regular vinyl.
