I was just introduced to this fun Christmas tradition called "The Elf on the Shelf". We got it out last night for our kids and it was a huge hit. An elf comes with the book, but I got a really cute one at Robert's to use instead. The book runs through the whole story, but pretty much the basis is that this is a magic elf that Santa sent to our house to watch our kids and report back to him if they are naughty or nice. You can't touch him or he'll lose his magic. Every night he goes home to the North Pole to report the day to Santa, then comes back and sits in a new place each day. My kids tell him what they want for Christmas, and he tells Santa that as well. You are supposed to name your elf, and my kids chose, George. So until Christmas, George the elf is helping make our holiday season a little more fun.
