Getting to Know Emily & Char

Let's go ahead and meet Emily & Char.

Round 2: Paint - Maze Wall Art & Chalkboard Dresser

Round 1: Brand Inspired/Knock-Offs - Fall Tweed Bag

Audition Project - Mai Ogi Bag

Contestant:

Who was your favorite celebrity as a child?
Mayim Bialik, otherwise known as Blossom. I quite literally thought I WAS Blossom, wore the same awesomely bad fashions, and played the trumpet just like Blossom. So, you can imagine how AWESOME my photos from the early 90's are.

What is your favorite color?
Purple, hands down. Closely followed by orange. Poor orange doesn't get enough attention.

What word describes you best?
Sassy

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Aside from my kids, because obviously they are the best thing I've ever done, I am quite proud of my educational accomplishments. I had my oldest son while still in college, and managed to complete my Bachelors and Masters degrees as a single mother. I'm currently in the dissertation-writing stage of my PhD in Sociology.

What drives you every day?
My boys. Quite literally, they drive me out of bed in the morning and drive me crazy all day long. :) But seriously, everything I do is about these little men. If I can raise smart, kind, loving boys who respect themselves and others, then that will be my greatest achievement.

What is your favorite food?
Ice cream from our AMAZING local shop, Jeni's. Some of my favorite flavors include Queen City Cayenne (chocolate with cayenne pepper) and Star Anise with Candy Coated Fennel Seeds! YUM! I love Jeni's flavor creativity.

Where do you like to vacation?
We spend most of our vacations in the mountains. My husband's family has been spending their vacations in Montana for decades, and my husband told me that not loving Montana was a "dealbreaker". Luckily, I fell in love with the mountains too, and we go out west nearly every year. We love to hike (Quinn bagged his first mountain summit at 9 weeks old!) and watch and photograph the amazing wildlife out there.

Who do you admire?
I have this beautiful friend who has fought through adversity, has built an amazingly beautiful family through adoption, is an INCREDIBLE mother, and has an unparalleled sense of style. Her name is Jencie, and I am so, so lucky to call her my friend. She has more "cool" in her pinky finger than I do in my whole being.

If you were invisible, where would you go?
I would absolutely watch my kids at school all day. I'm pretty sure that would be the most educational parenting experience ever.

What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?
You know, I'm constantly surrounded by kindness from my friends and family. They have all really bent over backwards in the last 10 years to help me get to where I am, and I love them dearly for it. It would be absolutely impossible for me to pick just one kind act, and consider myself so very lucky to have that problem!

What would you do with a million dollars?
I've always wanted to start a non-profit aimed at providing single mothers with grants to complete their education and to pay for high quality childcare. Educational opportunities and great child care are often cost prohibitive to single moms, and I think we could really make a difference in the quality of the lives of these women and their children by reducing the financial burden of education and work.

If you had three hours to yourself, what would you do with them?
Sleep. Or read crafty blogs. Or sew something. Pretty much anything OTHER than clean or write my dissertation. :)

Star:

Who was your favorite celebrity as a child?
Kirk Cameron.

What is your favorite color?
Green. Or maybe Aqua. Or red. And lately I like orange.

What word describes you best?
Unruly.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
My kids.

What drives you every day?
Tam, these questions are getting hard! Can I say my Honda Odyssey? ;)

What is your favorite food?
Cookies.

Where do you like to vacation?
Bear Lake.

Who do you admire?
My mom.

If you were invisible, where would you go?
Target...same place I always go.

What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?
I've got nothing.

What would you do with a million dollars?
I'm so boring I'd probably just invest it.

If you had three hours to yourself, what would you do with them?
Take a nap. Or a bath without children trying to get in. Or maybe hit some thrift stores.

  6. Glad to know I'm not the only one ambushed while I try to bathe every morning!! My 18-month-old hoists her legs up on the tub ledge and pretends to shave... which is a real head-scratcher, since I rarely have time for that!

Where I am no longer blogging, this blog is for reading purposes only. I am afraid I just can't keep up with it anymore, therefore, I may not be able to reply to all comments. Thank you.
