**Still no Internet, but I snuck over to the library to type this up for you.**
One of the best college rivalries (and the biggest in the state of Utah) is Utah Utes. vs. BYU Cougars. I myself am a Utah fan, therefore, we don't speak about "the team down south" in our house, so you might be surprised that I'm hosting a giveaway that involves this team (BYU).
Well, here's the kicker, several of my family members are BYU friends. Sad, I know. We pray for them all the time, but their loyalties run as deeply as ours. However, it is Christmas, so when this great publishing company, Last Second Miracles, contacted me to do this giveaway, I knew it could be a good thing.
Guess what they are giving away? A book called "The Answered Prayer".

Now I have to quote, because obviously, my opinion on the topic of the book is biased (my team lost).
"a beautifully illustrated book about the historic 2006 BYU vs Utah rivalry game and the dramatic game winning last second touchdown pass from John Beck to Jonny Harline. The highlight of the book is the final page of the story when the audio from the actual broadcast sounds with the pull of tab."
The book is also available as a companion interactive eBook for Ipads and Iphones in the itunes App store.
I knew exactly who I would be giving my copy to - my nephew, Jake. He is an avid BYU fan. In fact, the only time I've ever seen him in clothing that isn't BYU-related is family pictures. He even wears a BYU tie or tie tack to church. Speaking of family pictures, Jake doesn't smile for them. However, when I gave him the book, look what we got?

That my friends, is the biggest smile ever caught on camera from this high school senior. And look at his attire...BYU sweatshirt and basketball shorts. He's a die-hard.
I have to give the book some props on the illustrations. They are definitely good.

The one page that really made me chuckle is this one of the fans.

I love how the Utah fans have facial hair, tattoos, earrings (men), tank-tops, and look like hardened criminals. Then you look at the BYU fans and they are modestly clothed, their grooming is clean-cut, and you even have a sweet lady praying. LOL! Like I said, it gave me a good chuckle.
So what does any of this have to do with you? Well Last Second Miracles is going to give one of you an autographed copy of "The Answered Prayer". (signed by Jonny Harline). This would be a great gift for that BYU fan in your life (or a Utah fan for a book-burning party). Again, I'm totally kidding. I hope you all know that everything I'm saying is in good-natured sportmanship. It's all in the name of the rivalry. GO UTES!!!
Oh, sorry about that....what I meant was:

My team is the Oregon State Beavers, my alma mater. They didn't have a very good year. But my brother is a huge BYU fan. This book would be perfect for him.
ReplyDeleteMy team is University of Michigan, but I have a soft spot for BYU too. I know exactly who I'd give this book to!
ReplyDeleteWe are BYU fans all the way. Even in their ups and downs.
ReplyDeleteWe are Utah fans in our house as well!! Our best friends happen to be BYU fans. Every year we get together and watch the big game. We are all dressed in red, including our 4 children, and they are all dressed in blue, including their three children. The game is a blast and in the end someone wins and someone loses but we all have a great time. (Except maybe the husband of the losing team, they take it a little harder :) Next year we are both moving and will live 3 1/2 hours apart but we still plan on getting together for the big game. This would be a wonderful gift to give them.
ReplyDeleteBYU fans all the way. Every fall I long to be back in Provo for the football season, alas we are not even close.
ReplyDeletehbturner9@gmail.com
We are BYU fans, but are also partial to the University of Tennessee!
ReplyDeleteAnother BYU graduate (and fan) here. Not that I care about sports all that much. My husband... that's another story- he's a die-hard Cougar fan. I'm afraid it's been passed to my children, as well. Last year my then second grader came home from school and said a girl on her bus was making fun of her for being a BYU fan and telling her the Utes were better. My daughter (who may or may not be a smart aleck like her mom) said, "I just told her it's good she's a Utah fan because there was no way she was smart enough to be accepted at BYU!"
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE BYU down here!
ReplyDeleteRah, rah, rah, rah, rah........GO COUGARS!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are BYU fans here, too. My husband got his undergrad and masters at the U, I think that's why he likes BYU so much (not to mention the brainwashing at an early age.)
ReplyDeletesims.whitney@gmail.com
Ha ha! I am totally a Utes fan, but know plenty of family members that are diehard BYU fans. This would make a great gift :)
ReplyDeletemathis.a@gmail.com
BYU all the way :)
ReplyDeleteI think that illustration of the fans is hilarious!
My husband and I both went to BYU and are big fans. I, however, grew up in Boise.....so the Boise State Bronco in me takes over sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMy son is a huge football fan - he is 4 and you can tell his dad is a football coach. He knows players and teams and numbers and positions. I would love a new football book- we check out the same 6 or 7 football books every week at the library. He loves Utah and BYU but I am pretty sure his favorite teams is Boise State. Either way he would love a football book!
ReplyDeleteTory
That IS hilarious! We're Zoobies here at our house (and have pictures of us kids in little BYU sweatshirts all through our childhood), but I think this would be a good gift for our good friends who are die-hard Utes. They'd re-gift it back to us, but we'd have a good laugh in the meantime :)
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely BYU fans. Both my husband and I went there. He still talks about that play/catch. He would love this!
ReplyDeleteGo Cougars! My husband is a HUGE BYU fan and that game was perhaps one of the greatest days in my husband's life. It has sustained him through some other, less-than-awesome BYU football game results. If I don't win it I might just have to buy it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy team is and always has been BYU, but my dad would die for this book!! He is the biggest BYU fan in existence!
ReplyDeleteshellyhectic@yahoo.com
In our house there is only one team: BYU!!!! Both my husband and I graduated from there. It's pretty
ReplyDeletemuch the only sports team we watch! Goooooo Cougars!
(Also, I went to High School with Jonny Harline! Go Tigers!)
Oh man, this would be awesome!!! My entire family are BYU all the way!!
ReplyDeletestaci@justsewsassy.com
I favor Stanford more. But the hubs and children love them some BYU!!!
ReplyDeleteHubby and I met at BYU and we are true blues. He would die to have this book and pretty much all of his sibling and parents would love it too.
ReplyDeleteBYU all the way! All 7 kids in my family have graduated from there.
ReplyDeleteNo team for me. But my husband is a true BYU fan. In fact, our guest bedroom is the BYU room - memorabilia, blue and gold blankets, pillows, etc. I can't stand it! LOL! But I have my craft room. The consessions we make! How fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge BYU fan but married an even bigger UTAH fan. So yes we are a divided family. And one of our boys is a UTE and the other is a COUGAR. Makes life interesting. WOuld love to win this book because my husband and I were at that game sitting near that end zone when that whole play went down. IT was truly a magical moment:)
ReplyDeleteGO UTES! Just had to throw it out there. Sadly, there are also some in my family who have gone astray and cheer for BYU. It breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteBYU!!!!
ReplyDeletemandydow at gmail
BYU all the way!
ReplyDeleteBYU, no question. We even just redecorated our tree to be all blue and white this year!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBYU! The husband is an avid fan!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love it! I personally don't really care for football, but my husband (and his whole family!) are die-hard BYU fans. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I had respect for this blog until you mentioned how you are loyal to the brutes up north. sad. go cougs!
ReplyDeleteBYU all the way! I will never forget that game or our reactions afterward. Awesome game!! My husband would love this book and would go great with other BYU Christmas gifts I got him. I hope I win. Thanks for the great giveaway, even if you are a Ute fan.
ReplyDeleteOh my son would love it!! He loves BYU. His bedroom is byu blue and white. I personally could care less for football...:)
ReplyDeleteMy family is split right down the middle. My mom went to Utah, my dad to BYU. Guess which team their fans of?... It's not actually the school they went to! Weird, I know. I would LOVE to give this to my brother who is the biggest Ute fan you will ever meet.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Boise State fan #1, but BYU #2. I can cheer for the Utes so long as they're not playing those two teams. It's good for the conference when they do well... But now everything is different!
My husband is a HUGE BYU fan. I have to admit I am a Utah State fan first BYU second, and Utah third. Sorry! But, hey, at least the Utes made the list.
ReplyDeleteBYU. Graduated in 2003 and 2005.
ReplyDeleteericandsarita(at)gmail(dot)com
We bleed blue at our house, and my husband might possibly the biggest BYU fan on the planet. I would love to win this for him! My 7 year old son however, had decided he loves the Utes.
ReplyDeleteBYU!!!! I'm from WA but my siblings and I graduated from there. We are true blue all the way. I would give this book to my brother. He would love it. Thanks!
ReplyDeletebrianneandfam at yahoo dot com
BYU!! Though my blood may not quite bleed purely blue (I do have some family fighting on the other side of the Holy War), my father-in-law is a die-hard BYU football fan. I'm pretty sure this book would make me the favorite in-law--or maybe even just the favorite in general.
ReplyDeleteGo Cougars!!!! Some of my funnest memories are of my days at the Y.
ReplyDeleteBYU!!! I am a true-blue BYU fan - most of my family is, too. Unfortunately, my son is a Ute fan and was just way too happy this last game. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!
ReplyDeleteI, myself, am a U of U grad. But when it comes to sports, I don't get too excited about teams. On the other hand, some of my family are diehard BYU fans, and would like the book very much.
ReplyDeleteBYU all the way baby!! Our family is split exactly down the middle on BYU vs U of U so you can imagine what it's like when game time comes around! :)
ReplyDeleteamarissahancey at gmail
Sorry to tell you but we are die hart BYU fans too. But I do have a brother that will cheer for anyone who is playing BYU!!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a die hard BYU fan - my family has a long line of BYU grads (yes, including me) and we had season football tickets for years. However, my husband is a U grad. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteI am a die hard UTAH fan! Unfortunately my sweet hubby is a die hard BYU fan. I am doing my best to "save" our children from my hubbies mistakes!!! Good times around out house come November!
ReplyDeleteWell, I graduated from Ricks College... you know, when it still was Ricks College :) And since they got rid of all their athletic stuff, I guess I don't really have a team. But I have die hard BYU fan friends and family... so can I still enter the contest? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a Ute fan. Both my husband and I graduated from there. But we have really good friends and also my in laws are real DIEHARD BYU fans!!
ReplyDeleteBYU fans all the way. Blue through and throuagh
ReplyDeleteOh man, I would LOVE to win this. I have blue blood through and through. This would be such a fun book to have to share with family. I love Utah too, but when it comes to game time you'll always find me cheering for my Cougs.
ReplyDeletemoodykelly at gmail dot com
I actually went to Utah State, but lets be honest... I cheered for the U the entire time!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say how funny! Did you see my FB status yesterday about my son reading his Cosmo book every night and kissing the BYU quarterbacks good night? Haha. Also I went to high school with Jonny Harline. Fun stuff. Go Cougs!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is so die-hard BYU, he's been telling my 2 year old that red is a yucky color. I'm not even kidding.
ReplyDeleteBYU of course! Go Cougars!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Love it. . . Go cougars. Wouldn't have it any other way. Sometimes I wonder if my dad thinks the world is going to stop when BYU loses. This book would be a perfect present for him!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I are BYU fans and I'm sure he would just love me even more if I gave this to him!! :)
ReplyDeletejuliebrookeneff at yahoo dot com
We are BYU fans here, (Hubby is finishing up his master's degree there as we speak) but my big brother goes to the U, so we're "a house divided." We keep it pretty good-natured. :)
