Several Christmases ago, my sister-in-law made my mom and dad this neat book, called "The Christ Book". Once I glanced through it, I knew I wanted one for my family as well, so I went about making that happen. This is the cover that another sister-in-law and I made.

It starts off with a table of contents and each day you have a different topic. There is a short explanation, the scripture(s) that pertains to that explanation, a picture from the Primary 1 and 2 picture packets, and a song.

It literally only takes about 5-10 minutes each night, and it is a great way to teach your children to remember Christ each day throughout this Christmas season.
If you want one of your own, here is what you will need:
- Binder to put it all in
- Cover image (download here and print off as an 8x10)
- Main printout (download here - this includes the table of contents and all the topics, explanations, and scriptures)
- Second printout (download here - the title page, one song, and a picture)
- 39 clear plastic page separators
- Primary 1, Picture Packet only
- Primary 2, Picture Packet only
- Printouts of the songs below (click on song):
Samuel Tells of The Baby Jesus
When Joseph Went to Bethlehem
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Away in a Manger
Once within a Lowly Stable
Silent Night
Stars Were Gleaming
Far, Far Way on Judea's Plains
Hark! the Herald Angels Sing
Joy to the World
With Wondering Awe
Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful
Jesus Once Was a Little Child
Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
I Think When I Read That Sweet Story
Love One Another
Families Can Be Together Forever
When He Comes Again
**I also have a burned CD that has all the songs on it so we have accompaniment since no one in our house plays the piano and singing A Capella would be a bad idea. However, I couldn't figure out how to upload the CD for you to download. Sorry.**
Once you have all of those printed off, locate the table of contents and assemble the book in the order listed.
We usually do one topic per day, beginning in December. There are only 17 topics, so sometimes we will do two or three a day, depending on the topic, then we can get through the entire book twice before Christmas. Sometimes we spend more than one day on a topic, so we can discuss it a little more in-depth with our children. Feel free to use this book however you would like, to fit the needs of your family. May you all have CHRIST in your homes this holiday season and throughout the year.

This is GREAT! I have have been looking for something like this for our family. Can't wait to put this all together, as my main "beef" with Christmas is that it is not Christ-centered enough, and I want to make that a priority in our family when celebrating the holidays. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a believer but I think this is a nice idea purely for the fact that it encourages families to spend time together and pay attention to each other at a time when presents and money can be a big distraction. I think it could be appropriated to many different holidays :) thanks for posting it xx
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea! Just wondering if you end up using every single picture from both picture packets 1 and 2 or if it would be cheaper to buy the pictures individually? I'm not even sure that's an option....
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on making 10-12 copies....
ReplyDeleteDo you guys sing O Little Town of Bethlehem twice? I love this idea and I am in the process of putting it together for this Christmas. What a great tradition!

Great idea!!! Thanks!
Thank you for putting this all together. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI made this last night using some different photos and a few different songs.
ReplyDeleteI bought a big red 12x12 scrapbook and used colorful pages as mountings. I wanted to use a special book instead of a 3 ring binder, and it was well worth the effort.
The book turned out BEAUTIFUL!! (Total expense maybe $30.)
I still have a few more pictures to add, but it is just wonderful, and even though I haven't started the lessons w/ my kids, my 2 year old was entranced this morning just looking at the pages.
Your tutorial made it realy do-able. I really appreciate that it has some lessons about Jesus' life, the crucifixion and the resurrection. I can even see adding more lessons and more pages as the kids get older.
Thanks so much for sharing this great idea! I know it will be a special keepsake for our family.
Brooke~ That is really awesome on Heritage Makers. Is there a way you can order what you have done?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for creating and then sharing this. I am almost done putting the book together and then just have to move onto the music. Hoping I have it done by the first!!
ReplyDeleteKim-
ReplyDeleteIf you have an account, I can share it with you :)
I just shared it to the LDS account (483368) so if you know how to get into that account, it is in the templates on there.

This is soo great! Love this idea.. instead of burning a c.d. for the songs, there is an app for ipads it's called sing-along. It has all of the primary songs on it. I use it weekly when I teach my CTR 4 class. It also has great pictures to go with the songs. Thanks for the wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
