Say NO! to Auto

Thank you so much for all your advice and birthday wishes yesterday. You guys are seriously the best readers a girl could ask for!!

I told you yesterday that I had a plan to help me figure out my new DSLR camera. Well that plan included the ebook "Say NO! to Auto" by Kristen Duke.

Some of you "Sew Dang Cute" readers may remember Kristen from Season 1 of "Crafting with the Stars". She is an incredibly talented woman and an amazing photographer. She has her own photography business and offers great tips and advice on her blog.

When she contacted me a while ago to review her ebook, I told her I would love to, but I didn't have a DSLR camera. She gave me a copy anyway and told me if I ever got a camera to see if it helped. Umm...yeah it did!

I took Kristen's advice and printed off the ebook in 4x6 photo pages and had it bound. Total cost to do everything was under $5.00, and now I have this awesome book to carry around with me in my camera bag, so whenever I need to refer to it, it's right there.

This book is wonderful - whether you are a new photographer like me or an expert, I believe you will find it helpful. Kristen provides 3 basic step to understanding manual settings on your camera. She breaks down some photography lingo with an extremely helpful glossary of terms, then goes into each of the 3 steps in a little more detail, addressing things like ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.

I LOVE it! She gives you step-by-step scenarios (cloudy day, sunny day, shade, indoors, etc.) and shows you how she would adjust the settings for each of the scenarios, then provides pictures to show you the image those settings produced. It's FANTASTIC!!!

I highly recommend grabbing a copy of this book for yourself. Kristen has made it very affordable at only $10!!! Go here for more info.

And because posts are always so much more fun with pictures, check out this one I grabbed of my second daughter. If you know how she is at all when it comes to taking pictures, you will consider this photo a miracle. She doesn't look at the camera and certainly won't hold a smile for me, but look what I captured!

It was an extremely overcast day, when I took this, but notice no shadows!!!
I love that I was finally able to capture her cute personality in a photo, and just look at those bright, vivid colors. Thank you Kristen and my Nikon D90!!! I love you both!
