My little bundle of joy finally made his debut last Wednesday. I ended up being induced. Crazy, right? I definitely didn’t expect that to happen, but it did, and the whole thing turned out to be quite exciting and eventful. It was 3 hours, which is my longest labor to date and included a 40-minute wait for my doctor to get there to deliver. I won’t bore all of you with the whole story, but a couple of highlights involved the anesthesiologist having to run off to the ER (for himself), nurses running frantically around my room, my blood pressure dropping, a late doctor, and more.
Everything turned out just fine.
My family of 6 now.
I’ll admit that it’s been a little rough. We’ve had several obstacles to deal with, and as the mom, I’ve been worried a lot, but it could be worse and I know everything will turn out all right in the end.
We got thrown another hurdle yesterday when our little guy ended up being under one of these bad boys to be treated for jaundice.
He screamed and screamed so we switched one of those beds out for one of these.
Much better, but we have to keep it at a 45 degree angle since he has a little reflux, so he slides down constantly and chokes himself. Basically it means we have to watch him 24/7 to make sure he’s not spitting up and choking, or sliding down and choking. That all comes down to no sleep, even more so than a typical newborn.
He also had some anatomy circumstances that his father is quite proud of, but it meant the “male procedure” had to be modified a little and cauterization was involved to avoid stitches. Bottom line – we have to watch that more closely than normal also to make sure things are healing properly.
Like I said, a few things we weren’t expecting, but they’re little things and we’ll get through them just fine.
He is such a good baby and so cuddly. I love to just hold him to me. We are all smitten and completely in love with our new addition and so happy Ryker has joined our family!

ReplyDeleteMy youngest had to do the"tanning bed"thing and I wish I had known about the suit you guys are using. It would have been much better! I can totally sympathize on the no sleep because you have to watch then 24/7 in there. But I can tell you that it is but a brief moment and looking back you won't even remember it. On another note I have never had a post baby hospital picture look so good as yours does! Curled hair and all! (I rocked the point tail lol) congratulations on your beautiful family--connie, measuredbytheheart.comMy youngest had to do the"tanning bed"thing and I wish I had known about the suit you guys are using. ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tam! He's so adorable!
ReplyDeleteYay!! Congrats on a handsome lil' boy! Sorry to hear about the reflux & jaundice issues. Maybe once you get the "all clear" on the jaundice your sweet boy could benefit from a Nap Nanny (www.napnanny.com) for reflux. I just had my 3rd baby (3mos ago) and someone gave one to me for a gift. It keeps them at a nice incline while sleeping. That nap nanny + the swaddle blanket = nice sweet baby sleep! If I lived close to you, I'd just let you borrow mine :) Many blessings!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Tam! What a cutie & great family pics too.
