Ok that title may be a little lame, but I can’t for the life of me come up with a name for this.
It’s my FALL project for this month’s “The Creative Carousel”. Have you guys climbed aboard yet?
Be sure to check out the new tutorial EVERY DAY this week at each of our blogs, and definitely go enter the giveaway valued at over $300 HERE.
Anyway back to my contribution. Remember these closet doors I scored at the thrift store for $5?
I used three of them for my Shutter Headboard in my Guest Bedroom Redo.
Which left me with one.
I used some Wood Filler to fill in some various holes, then sanded the whole thing down to get rid of splinters and such.
A quick coat of Valspar Golden Maize spray paint.
More “Springy” than “Fall”, so I glazed it with Ralph Lauren Tobacco glaze.
A barnyard star also says “Fall” to me, so I picked up this one at Roberts (using a 40% off coupon).
Once again I turned to spray paint. This time Krylon Classic White, then sanded it down to distress it a bit.
Hung the star up on the shutter along with some Fall foliage, and there you go.
I’m a little sad that summer is ending, but having some fall décor up is definitely getting me excited for Fall.
So what do you guys think? Any good names for this, or am I stuck with Autumn Shutter?

I love this! Can't think of any great names for you, but that yellow color looks great!

Love it. I like that you used the glaze to darken it up a bit, it worked perfect for this project.

Happy shutter? No, that's pretty lame. I think Autumn Shutter works well ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it, Tam, no matter what you call it! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I just scored myself 4 of those doors (8shutters!) from my sisters fil. I was telling all my sisters how I've seen lots of cute ideas for decorating with shutters and her fil's house has these closet doors on EVERYTHING. He heard me talking and remembered that he had 4 doors in his basement...all for me! I hauled them from Boise to Utah and couldn't wait to get started...this was great inspiration for me! What a cute Autumn decoration. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI did a very similar project last week and couldn't think of a better name either! I like yours, the star was a good idea! Way cute.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I have an idea for shutters on the giant wall behind my couch, wish I could find some awesome shutters at a thrift store.. guess it's time to really start the hunt. Looking at your shutter projects motivates me a little : )
ReplyDeleteI love your shutter idea!
ReplyDeleteI featured it on my blog. www.thethreesweetpeas.blogspot.com
