Ryker’s Nursery: Part 5 {ABC Block Lamp}

I love lamps! I think they add such warmth and comfort to a room, so naturally I had to put one in Ryker’s nursery, and since I couldn’t seem to find anything I liked in the retail industry, I went with my fallback these days: DIY.

ABC Block Lamp

I’m calling it the ABC Block lamp. It’s a combination of the fabrics used on the crib bumper. Crib-bumper

I was trying to pull more ABC into the room, while also adding more the different colors in the fabrics.

I had this lamp on hand from my oldest daughter’s nursery.

Original Lamp

I pried off the chipboard butterflies and ladybugs and took the entire lamp apart. You can easily make this lamp as well with a lamp rod, lamp kit (sold at Wal-Mart for about $6), a wooden base, and 3 wooden blocks.

Lamp rod

Then spray painted the base and blocks Krylon Almond.

Paint Blocks and Base

Next I used my ever-fabulous Silhouette to cut out the vinyl for the blocks.

Vinyl on Blocks

I was able to find the vinyl at my local Roberts Crafts. They have a great selection of colors!

Vinyl on Blocks 2

I recovered the lampshade just like I did HERE, and my lamp was done and ready to go on top of the refinished dresser!

ABC Lamp on Dresser

Oh and see that cute way to decorate the wipes case? That fantastic idea came from Miss Ellie G of Less Cake More Frosting. (A must-read BTW. It’s one of those blogs that I read EVERY.SINGLE.WORD. Love it!).

Lamp in room

One project closer to room completion. “I think I can, I think I can…..”

Fab Five #7

Sorry this is coming a day late and much later in the day, but better late than never right? You guys remember my disclaimer?

Ready for the weekly edition of “FAB FIVE”? If you are new to my blog, each week I feature 5 tutorials/projects that really stood out to me and were FABULOUS!

So here they are.

This is a unique way to add some color to your jewelry. I love how simple and creative this is!

My girls start school next week and I am all over this first day of school photo! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea!!!

Kari is always showing off what everyone else is making, but we rarely get to see her fantastic creations, like this houndstooth quilt. Isn’t it beautiful? I don’t even know what colors I would do, but I want to make one now!

This family photo is such a darling idea! I have a picture of my kids’ feet that I love, and I think I’m going to have to do one of these with all of our hands. Too cute!

I’m sure everyone has already seen these gorgeous pillows by Jen, but they are seriously some of my favorite pillows I’ve ever seen so they MUST be included in this week’s Fab Five. B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L!!!!

There you have them. FABULOUS, huh?

I would love to hear your thoughts and also see anything you thought was FABULOUS this week.
If I featured you, please feel free to grab a button to proudly display.
Have a great weekend and be sure to come back tomorrow to vote for the themes to be used in Season 3 of “Crafting with the Stars”.
