Laminate Baby Bib Tutorial & Riley Blake Fabric GIVEAWAY!!! **ENDED**

They have been one of my favorite fabric companies for a couple of years now, and I am so excited to be able to share some of that fabulous fabric with one of you.

Have you heard of laminate cotton? It’s awesome stuff. It would be great for rain slickers, fingerpainting aprons, swimming totes, etc.

I decided to use it to make baby bibs.

I have this great baby bib that my friend gave to me when I had my son last summer. It’s bigger than most baby bibs, so it covers most of my son’s body.

So all that lovely baby food mess doesn’t get on his clothes.

The only problem is I only have one. So when I saw the laminate cotton, I thought it would be perfect to use for a couple more bibs.

To start, you will need to download the baby bib pattern HERE.

Use the 1” square as your guideline for printing the correct size, then tape the two pieces together by lining up the dotted lines.

Use the pattern piece to cut out two pieces of fabric and one piece of fusible interfacing.

I made two bibs, so I have four pieces of fabric.

Iron a piece of interfacing to the wrong side of one of your pieces of fabric.

Sew the two pieces of fabric right sides together using a 1/4” seam allowance and leave about a 4” opening at the bottom for turnout.

Clip along the rounded corners. This will help the bib lay more flat when it’s turned inside out.

Be sure you don’t cut through your stitch line.

Turn the entire thing inside out and press.

Topstitch along the edges. This was probably the only real snag in using the laminate fabric. It tended to grip to my sewing machine instead of feeding through nice and smooth, so I kind of had to push and pull it through, which made my stitching not as pretty as I would like.

The other thing I really liked about the bib my friend gave me was the snap. SOO much better than velcro, so I found this package at Hobby Lobby.

You’ll need four parts for one snap. Two poky pieces, a bump piece, and an insert piece. (I know those aren’t the actual names, but that’s the best description I have for them).

Follow the package directions for attaching the snaps to your fabric. The one tip I would give is put the insert side of the snap in first. Then when you have the poky piece for the bump piece in place like so…

…attach the bump piece to the insert piece before hammering.

I didn’t do that the first time and ruined the bump piece when I hammered the snap together.

It was smashed and wouldn’t fit in the insert piece anymore. Oops!

Once the snap is installed you should have two laminate baby bibs. I made mine reversible, so I used one piece of each fabric for one bib.

These are GREAT bibs! They wipe off super easy and don’t stain.

You can throw them in the washing machine and dryer no problem! I only wish I would have had these for my other 3 children.

The fabric line I used is Mod Tod.
