Today I want to share with all of you a remarkable journey that involves someone very dear to me – my friend Jessica. The same Jessica who’s room is being made over.
Only this journey isn’t about a room.
It’s a personal victory. One that took setting goals and working very hard to achieve those goals.
It all started with a dream.Jessica had a dream of completing a marathon. However, she didn’t quite no how to go about it.
Enter Jeff Galloway.
“His innovative ideas have opened up the possibility of running and completing a marathon to almost everyone.”
What is it?
A marathon and half-marathon training program designed and administered by Jeff Galloway, US Olympian and long-time marathoner which utilizes intervals of running and walking in order to minimize injury and improve finish times.
How can I benefit?
You will be able to run a marathon within six months (over 95% of the members do).
You will be able to run with a group each week at your ability level with a definite training schedule while enjoying good conversation.
You will receive group support as you run your marathon.
You will receive a personalized training schedule, one of Jeff Galloway's books, a Coolmax training shirt, a year's subscription to Runner's World magazine, as well as training advice, and endless encouragement.
Do I have to have prior running experience?
Although our program caters to new runners, we do ask that you be able to comfortably run three miles before joining the group. For useful tips on getting started and building your base mileage, click here . Once you join the group, you will be placed with other runners with a similar pace and running experience.
Is the program just for marathons and half marathons?
No. Our program director will set up an individual training program for you based on your chosen race, whether it is a 5K, marathon, or any distance in between.
Do I have to train for a race, or can I just run for fun?
Several members of our program just enjoy running recreationally and prefer the support as a group, and training for a race is entirely up to you.

Jessica joined the Salt Lake City chapter of the Jeff Galloway training program in April 2010. 6 months later (only 9 months after the birth of her second child), she proudly finished the St. George marathon!!!
But that isn’t the end of her story.
Fast forward to July 2011 when Jess came to visit me in the hospital when I had Ryker.
This picture was the catalyst for Jessica.
She felt like the person on the outside did not match the person on the inside.
She had run a marathon. She had also completed her first triathlon the previous week.
In her words, “I didn’t look like someone who had done those things.”
That week she joined Weight Watchers. She wanted to continue running marathons/half-marathons, yet she knew her weight was holding her back.
She wanted her outside image to reflect the hard work she was putting into training.
Jessica has joined Weight Watchers before, and had minor success, but didn’t ever see it through to her goal.
WHAT WAS DIFFERENT THIS TIME?
* “Training for a marathon and completing it, mentally made me stronger. Having to dig down and finish 26.2 miles when your body DOES NOT WANT TO, taught me how to get through the high’s and low’s that came my way.”
* “Having the dedication to follow through with the marathon training, I realized I was much stronger and capable than I gave myself credit for.”
* “Crossing the finish line gave me the courage to try things that I didn’t think were possible or would never happen for me.”
* “When you are out running those 26.2 miles, you are by yourself with only the thoughts in your head to listen to. By overcoming all of the challenges and emotions that your face during that marathon, I’ve learned that I can do anything. I can use that same determination to overcome any obstacle in my life.”
Today, Jessica is happier and healthier than she’s been since high school.
Just last month she ran a half marathon and smashed her PR by more than 14 minutes!!!
“Having that extra weight off makes such a big difference! It’s so much easier and more enjoyable to run. The aches and pains are gone, and it’s nice to feel light out there.”
This journey has given Jessica the courage to tackle a new role in her life.
She is now the new program director for the Salt Lake City Jeff Galloway training program.
Their season kicks off March 31st at the Jordan River Parkway 1205 West Winchester (6400 South) in Murray, Utah @ 8:00 am.

Watching Jessica accomplish her fitness and weight loss goals has been amazing. I am so proud of her. I feel like her story is so inspiring. Hopefully, you felt it too!
