A couple of weeks ago, I asked you guys on Facebook for a killer peanut butter bars recipe. Just like with the cinnamon rolls, you guys gave me some great recommendations.
I pinned a lot of the recipes and got to work cooking and taste-testing.
My family has eaten a lot of different peanut butter bars in the last couple of weeks.
First up was from One More Moore.
If you like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, then you will love these. They taste just like them.
The nice thing about these is they whip up pretty fast because there is no baking involved.
My husband LOVED them. In fact, they were his favorite out of all the different recipes I tried. They were a little rich for my taste, but I don’t really like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (gasp I know…don’t hate me please?)
So I sent them to work with my husband. They were a hit because two of his co-workers asked me for the recipe.
Second I tried School Lunch Peanut Butter Bars from Welcome to Mel’s Kitchen.
These were definitely more of the baked peanut butter bar taste I was going for. My favorite part about these bars was the frosting. It’s Hershey’s Cocoa Best Frosting and it was scrumptious. However, I found the bars themselves to be a little too thick and dry for my taste. Don’t get me wrong….they were good enough to eat the whole pan, but this was my least favorite of the recipes I made and I probably wouldn’t make them again. These also took quite a bit of time to make because everything had to set and cool before you moved on to the next layer (crust, peanut butter, chocolate frosting).
Third I made PB Bars by Sumo’s Sweet Stuff
I’ve had used some of Sumo’s recipes before, so I knew she made good stuff. And these were good! They had the baked taste I wanted, they weren’t too thick or dry, and they were much faster to make than the previous recipe. The frosting uses semi-sweet chocolate chips so it wasn’t too rich or sweet.
I actually thought they tasted better the next day after they had set a bit more, which means we ate even more and the entire pan was soon gone.
I still had a couple of recipes to try…
Fourth I made School Lunch Peanut Butter Bars from Tried and Tried Again.
My friend recommended them to me and said “Remember the ones we used to always eat in middle school? These taste just like them.” Guess what? They did! This was the recipe I was looking for!!!! Absolutely delicious!
The crust texture was just right. The frosting was delish. I loved them!
Again I thought they tasted better the day after. I’m surprised they lasted that long, but don’t you worry, they were quickly gone!
These were my favorite recipe, but a very close second was the fifth recipe I made.

After baking the crust part, you sprinkle a layer of chocolate chips on it while still hot, then spread the chocolate, then you top it off with a yummy peanut butter frosting. Yummy! Like I said, these were a very close second. Actually, I’m not sure I can say of the two which I liked better. Maybe I should just say they were a tie. We devoured these within 24 hours. My mom was in town and loved them also. She’s a pretty selective eater, so that’s really saying something. Thanks Tonia for sharing!!!
